Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
