Hurricane the storm is projected to escalate to a uncommon Category 5 cyclone as it veers in the direction of the Caribbean island, bringing dangerous rapid inundation and landslides.

This weather system, which recorded winds of up to 120 mph as of 6:00 AM GMT, is now shifting northwest in the Caribbean region and is anticipated to hit the coast by midweek, based on data from weather experts.

Advisories of power cuts and damage to infrastructure have been announced as this storm brings up to 76cm of rain and storm surges as high as thirteen feet above typical tides. "Take cover without delay," inhabitants have been advised.

This hurricane is the 13th named hurricane in this year's Atlantic storm period, which normally finishes in the eleventh month.

Category Five Cyclone Danger

A highest-level cyclone is the strongest type, with sustained winds of at least 252 km/h.

"An extended timeframe of damaging winds and intense precipitation are underway and will cause devastating and dangerous rapid water accumulation and many landslides," urged weather authorities.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness said: "I understand that there are many Jamaicans who are worried, who are extremely apprehensive, and with good reason: worry is natural.

"But the most effective method to manage anxiety and any nervousness and concern is to stay ready."

Residents are being told to protect their properties with protective bags and plywood sheets, and to stock up on essentials.

Wider Impact

Alerts are also active for parts of the neighboring country including the primary urban center, the Dominican Republic and Cuba's eastern region, where this storm is expected to bring analogous consequences by the middle of next week.

Landslides already being caused by the storm have already killed two in the country, according to local authorities.

The hurricane is projected to cross the island nation by midweek before traveling via the Antillas Mayores and out into the open ocean.

By the point it makes contact with Cuba, it is predicted to have diminished to a third-level cyclone.
