Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important official said the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
